WSC Values

To maintain the values and special character that have made the Whakatipu Ski Club what it is today, it is essential that members understand the efforts and commitments that past and present members have made.

The club was started by a group of Queenstown locals in 1949 who had a vision to provide club rooms where people could meet and share their skiing experiences with other like-minded people in a family-friendly atmosphere and secondly, to further their skiing competency and ability.

Many members are 4th generation which shows the depth of time and commitment that many local families have given to this club over the years. As the club is a non-commercial organisation, it requires members to provide their time to maintain the club's facilities and administer our lesson programmes as well as volunteering in the local community.

All monies raised by the club goes not only into upgrading the club's facilities, but also ensuring that local families have access to affordable skiing and snowboarding lesson programmes.

Members should remember that we don't have paid people to run the club on a day-to-day basis, so members need to help in keeping the club tidy and presentable.

For example, if the fire needs some more wood, go and get some from out the back of the club hut. If it has snowed overnight, give a few minutes of your time snow-clearing the decks and steps. If you use any utensils, clean and put them away after use and wipe the bench, keep the coffee area clean. Just a few minutes tidying up or helping out at the BBQ on the Sunday lesson days makes a huge difference.

The club's major fundraiser is the annual snowgear sale each May. This is when over a 100 members are needed to help out and provide their time. Make a point of being free to give a hand at this event, it's a great way to meet other members and catch up with old friends.

Your committee are volunteers. If you have any ideas, please don't hesitate to speak to a committee member, we are always ready to listen.

When you join the Whakatipu Ski Club, you become a part owner. Get involved and you will have the opportunity to make some life-long friends.

We wish you well with you and your families' skiing/boarding on Coronet Peak. Please make yourself at home and don't hesitate to make yourself known to other members.
