To maintain the values and special character that have made the Wakatipu Ski Club what it is today, it is essential that members understand the efforts and committments that past and present members have made.
The Club was started by a group of Queenstown locals in 1949 who had a vision to provide club rooms where people could meet and share their skiing experiences with other like-minded people in a family friendly atmosphere and secondly to further their skiing competency & ability.
Many members are 4th generation which shows the depth of time and committment that many local families have given to this club over the years. As the club is a non-commercial organisation, it requires members to provide their time to maintain the clubs facilities and administer our lesson programmes etc.
All monies raised by the club goes not only into upgrading the clubs facilities, but ensures that quality lesson programmes and Polar Bear Club (creche) services are provided at the lowest rates possible.
Members should remember that we don't have paid people to run the club on a day to day basis, so members need to help in keeping the club-rooms tidy and presentable.
For example, if the fire needs some more wood, go and get some from out the back of the polar bear club. If it has snowed overnight, give a few minutes of your time snow-clearing the decks and steps. If you use any utensils, clean and put them away after use and wipe the bench, keep the coffee area clean. Just a few minutes tidying up or helping out at the BBQ on the Sunday lesson days makes a huge difference.
The clubs major fund raiser is the annual ski sale each May. This is when over a 100 members are needed to help out and provide their time. Make a point of being free to give a hand at this event. The club always needs more helpers.
Your committee are voluntarily providing their time and services for your benefit. If you have any ideas, please don't hesitate to speak to a committee member, we are always ready to listen.
When you join the Wakatipu Ski Club, you become a part owner. Please ensure that you respect the past efforts of members from years gone by.
We wish you well with you and your families skiing/boarding on Coronet Peak. Please make yourself at home and don't hesitate to make yourself known to other members.
