The rules below help keep the PBC running smoothly. These are necessary so that other club members, our caregivers and volunteers helping run the PBC are not inconvenienced.
Use of the Polar Bear Club is ONLY for Wakatipu Ski Club members who have booked in to use the PBC that day. No friends' or relatives' kids. Occasionally, casual space is available, through the supervisor. Those shortlisted get first priority.
The minimum age is 8 months, maximum age 4 years.
Please don't bring your child to the Polar Bear Club if s/he is sick or infectious. You will be asked to take him/her home again.
At least one parent/caregiver must remain on Coronet, contactable by cell phone, while their child is in PBC.
Cancellation of a booking must be made by 5pm the night before or the full session fee will be charged. . Call Julia's cellphone 027 441-1068 to cancel a booking. Leaving a message on her answer phone is fine. Please cancel earlier if possible, so she can take other children who might be shortlisted.
PBC is closed if the mountain is closed. Please check with nzski.com if the weather looks dubious. Coronet Peak's ph # is 442 4620. If the mountain is closed by weather while a PBC session is on, please return to the hut and pick up your child immediately so our caregivers can also get down the mountain safely.
If we have to cancel the Polar Bear Club at any time - for instance due to caregiver illness - the supervisor will contact all parents with bookings as soon as possible.
$100 is payable as a bond prior to us accepting any bookings and can be paid via credit card online upon completing the booking form or posted in. This is not to be used for session payments and will be refunded less anything owed at the end of the season.
The charge is $15 (cash only) per session (morning or afternoon) for your child. For extra siblings, the charge is $10, unless one is a baby who requires an extra caregiver, in which case the full charge applies. Please pay the charges upon leaving your child(ren) at the PBC.
NB: The fee MUST be paid at time of dropping off your child. Please don't embarrass the caregivers by them having to decline taking your child. There is an ATM machine at the base building.
The $100 bond is not for the payment of session fees.
Please make sure that children are collected BEFORE the end of the session. There is no supervision of children at the PBC during the lunch break at weekends. Our caregivers also need a lunch break, and to get away at the end of each session.
Unfortunately, a penalty system has had to be introduced for parents who do not pick up their child(ren) on time. A penalty of $5 will apply for every 10 minutes beyond the end of the session, to be paid to the caregiver being held back to look after your child. Parents who are consistently late will be excluded from use of the PBC.
Please note the hours of operation for each session (as weekend hours are different).
Please notify the head carer when you drop off and collect your child(ren), so she can note it in the daily schedule.
If you use the Polar Bear Club rooms/resources when there is no session, please supervise your own children and clean up afterwards. It's not our caregivers' or club committee members' job to clean up after others.
Please don't use up any of the PBC resources without at least telling the supervisor. Any breakages are to be reported and paid for. Please be honest on this - other club members shouldn't have to cover your costs. Also, please don't stick your kid's artwork to the wall with PVA glue.
A snack and drink (no food is provided by the PBC), a change of clothing, outdoor footwear and clothing, slippers/inside shoes, disposable nappies and wipes as required, comfort requirements (eg teddy, sheepskin, dummy).
Please make sure everything is named and that you pick up all your child(ren)'s belongings at the end of the session. There is a room for them to sleep in, but please bring warm blankets or their sleeping bag as we don't have a lot. Please also provide a plastic bag for dirty nappies - and take them home - as our rubbish bins aren't emptied that regularly.
If a child is inconsolable for some reason or becomes sick, the caregivers will ask the parent to come back for their child. Please carry your cell phone and ensure it is switched on. As the WSC phone is toll-barred, the caregiver will have to use her phone to call you. We ask that you pay her $1 for this on your return. You will only be called if it is urgent.
Please submit the enrolment form and either pay the $100 bond online or post a cheque to P.O.Box 123 to confirm your bookings.
That's it! We hope you thoroughly enjoy your time on the mountain. Cheers, Wakatipu Ski Club Committee.
